Wedgwood and Whiskey: A Birmingham, AL engagement
When my friend Avery told me that her boyfriend-turned-fiancé Sean had popped the question to her in a surprise proposal up in the Blue Ridge Mountains my first question was “So… I’m shooting your wedding, right?”
Given our 8 years of friendship and the hundreds of photos and portraits I’d taken of her in that time, I’m very grateful that her response was an enthusiastic yes! I never assume that my friends will use me for their photos, but I’m always so excited when they do!
The original plan was for me to come back home to Birmingham, AL for Thanksgiving with my family and take Avery and Sean’s pictures while there BUT an unfortunate loss brought me back home about two months earlier than planned. Luckily, time spent with two dear friends at the Birmingham Museum of Art and The Collins Bar was exactly what I needed to lift my spirits.
We explored the museum together, taking advantage of every instance of interesting, dynamic light and scenes. From the Wedgwood gallery (the largest collection outside of England btw) to the museum’s sculpture garden, we covered as much ground as we possibly could on that beautiful, fall day.
After the museum, we met up at The Collins Bar, a cocktail bar on Downtown Birmingham’s 2nd Ave North where there isn’t a menu, as each drink is lovingly and creatively crafted by their bartenders per each guest’s taste and preferences. Between the stunning decor and the handful of board games present, we were able to capture some incredible images together.
While we’re still several months out from their 2026 wedding, I’m endlessly grateful for the trust that Sean and Avery have put in me and I know that if these engagement photos are anything to go off of, their wedding will easily be one of the best I’ll have ever shot ♥
